Rehabilitación de la hemiplejia en niños con parálisis cerebral desde la terapia ocupacional asistida con perros

Abstract

El objetivo principal del estudio en cuestión es evidenciar los posibles beneficios de la intervención de la terapia ocupacional complementada mediante la terapia asistida con perros, en la hemiplejia de niñas y niños de 6 a 12 años con parálisis cerebral infantil. Este se realizará en un contexto hospitalario, concretamente en el Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Barcelona, localidad de la cual se va a extraer la muestra. Se necesitaran aproximadamente unos 80 participantes para desarrollar la investigación. El diseño del estudio va a ser un ensayo clínico aleatorizado. Las directrices generales del tratamiento consistirán en promover la autonomía de la persona en el desempeño de sus respectivas actividades de la vida diaria. Mediante escalas de valoración se determinará el grado de evolución que la persona presenta ante la intervención propuesta, en este caso se va a usar la ‘Quality Upper Extremity Skills Test’, la ‘Gross Motor Function Classification System’, ‘WeeFIM’ y la ‘Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests’ para medir las múltiples variables principales. El estudio puede presentar ciertas limitaciones, tales como que un participante presente reacciones alérgicas a los perros, que haya una falta de motivación para el tratamiento, limitaciones a nivel espacial y de recursos o bien dificultades para obtener la muestra necesaria para poder realizar en condiciones óptimas el proyecto.

The aim of this project is to show the potential benefits of occupational therapy intervention through dog-assisted therapy in hemiplegic children aged 6 to 12 years old with infantile cerebral palsy. This study will be carried out in a hospital setting, at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, city from which the sample will be drawn. About 80 subjects will be needed to perform the study, which will consist of a randomised clinical trial. The general guidelines of the treatment will focus on promoting the subjects’ autonomy on their daily living activities. The degree of the evolution shown by the subject as a result of the proposed intervention will be measured by assessment scales like the ‘Quality Upper Extremity Skills Test’, the ‘Gross Motor Function Classification System’, ‘WeeFIM’ and the ‘Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests’, which will also determine the main multiple variables. The study may present some limitations, such as allergies to dogs, lack of motivation towards the treatment, limited space or resources, or difficulties obtaining the necessary sample to fulfil the study in the optimal conditions.
