Traducció del testament de Paul Newman

Abstract

L’objectiu principal d’aquest treball és aplicar els coneixements adquirits durant la carrera, i no hi ha millor manera de dur la teoria a la pràctica, que la d’haver de realitzar una traducció treballada i justificada d’un tema en concret, en aquest cas un testament, i tenir les eines necessàries per raonar i defensar les decisions preses durant el procés de traducció. El tema que he escollit forma part del vast àmbit de la traducció jurídica, la qual es caracteritza per un llenguatge molt ric i unes expressions concretes. El meu treball de fi de grau es basa en la traducció del testament de Paul Newman, un filantrop, actor i director de cinema estatunidenc. Tot seguit trobareu una breu biografia, l’explicació i definició de l’estructura del dret successori nord-americà i el català i una comparativa d’ambdós; el text original en anglès i la seva traducció al català, un comentari traductològic, les conclusions i les fitxes terminològiques que inclouen vocabulari específic i paraules clau de la traducció.

The main aim of this project is to put into practice the knowledge we have acquired through the Translation and Interpreting degree. Creating a well crafted and justified translation of a specific topic—in this case a Last Will and Testament—and knowing how to justify every decision that has been made throughout the translating process is the best way of demonstrating our well-grounded learning. The selected topic falls under the broad field of Legal Translation, characterized by a rich language and highly precise expressions. My final project is based on the translation of Paul Newman’s Last Will and Testament, a North American philanthropist, actor and film director. Hereunder you will find a brief biography, a definition and explanation of the structure of the American and Catalan Inheritance Laws, and a comparison of both models; the source text in English and its translation into Catalan, a translation commentary, the conclusions and the terminological files, which include specific vocabulary and the translation’s key words.
