Etnia gitana e inclusión escolar

Abstract

Actualmente más de la mitad de los niños y niñas gitanos sufre abandono escolar temprano en España, unos datos bastantes elevados en comparación a los que presentan el conjunto de la población. Con el presente trabajo se pretende indagar en su historia y conocer las razones o motivos que explican este porcentaje tan elevado, además de establecer alternativas de inclusión escolar con el fin de garantizar su continuidad en el sistema educativo. Para ello se realizó un estudio para conocer opiniones y experiencias dentro del ámbito educativo por medio de entrevistas a alumnado y familias gitanas y a docentes que trabajan con este colectivo. Se terminaron encontrando muchos ejemplos de exclusión y racismo en las escuelas por parte del profesorado, y concluimos con la importancia de mejorar su formación y un necesario un cambio en la sociedad para una mayor inclusión de este colectivo.

Currently, more than half of Roma boys and girls drop out of school early in Spain, quite high data compared to those presented by the population as a whole. The present work aims to investigate its history and find out the reasons or motives that explain this high percentage, in addition to establishing alternatives for school inclusion in order to guarantee its continuity in the educational system. For this, a study was carried out to find out opinions and experiences within the educational field through interviews with Roma students and families and with teachers who work with this group. We ended up finding many examples of exclusion and racism in schools by teachers, and we concluded with the importance of improving their training and a necessary change in society for a greater inclusion of this group.
