Introducing english poetry to young learners: poetry as an experience based-learning

Abstract

This final dissertation project has its main objective to introduce English Poetry to students in early childhood education. The proposal has been implemented in the group (B) of the course (P4) at the El Carme Vedruna school in the city of Manlleu in order to create an immersed space of English poetry through the game and the memorization of a poem. The research has been carried out through a practical intervention of five lessons analysed through observation grids. In addition, interviews have been done to three English teachers and a survey to the students' parents. The results of this study are detailed in this thesis.

El projecte de fi de grau que presento a continuació té com a objectiu principal introduir la poesia anglesa als infants de l’etapa d’educació infantil. La proposta ha estat implementada al grup (B) del curs (P4) a l’escola El Carme Vedruna de la ciutat de Manlleu amb la finalitat de crear un espai d’immersió de la poesia anglesa mitjançant el joc i la memorització d’un poema. La recerca s’ha fet a través d’una proposta d’intervenció pràctica de cinc sessions analitzades a partir d’unes graelles d’observació. A més, també s’han dut a terme entrevistes a les Mestres d’anglès de l’escola i una enquesta als pares dels alumnes. Els resultats d’aquest estudi es presenten detallats a continuació.
