Background: Down’s syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by an alteration of chromosome 21 in the human genome. This syndrome is characterised by several signs and symptoms such as hypotonia. This hypotonia will be partly responsible for a delay in motor development in these children, which will have repercussions in the future. The physiotherapist will intervene in this delay by using several strategies such as treadmill training.
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the treadmill intervention in the motor development, in the normalization of the muscle tone of children with Down syndrome who are between 20 and 60 months old and in the improvement of the quality of life of the child and his parents.
Methodology: The study is a randomized simpleec clinical trial that will be carried out in the CAMPS structure in Saint Esteve, France. Two groups will be formed, according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, of children with Down syndrome who are between 20 and 60 months old. The first group (control group) will do a standard treatment, and the second group (experimental group) will do the same treatment as the control group, plus treadmill training sessions. We will evaluate the participants' progress through: GMFM-88, Campbell’s Escala and PedsQL.
Limitation of the study: An important cost of the study, a low adherence to the participation of the parents in the study, and a poor state of health and emotion of the children are the limitations that we will face in this study.
Key words: Down syndrome; treadmill; thick motor development; hypotonia; quality of life.^^^^
