eficaz y segura.^^^^

Introduction: Stroke, also known as ictus, is the leading cause of brain damage in Spain. The
sequelae it leaves are varied, among them the deficits in the upper extremities stand out. For
the recovery of the functionality of these, mirror therapy is proposed. The visual illusion
produced by the mirror makes patients perceive the movement as an action performed by the
affected upper limb, with information reaching the damaged cerebral hemisphere by means of
mirror neurons.
Objective: The objective of this systematic review is to analyse the evidence currently available
to assess the efficacy of mirror therapy in functional rehabilitation of the upper limb in post stroke patients.
Method: A search was performed in the PubMed, Scopus and Medline databases using the
keywords. Studies that passed different inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected.
Results: Nine articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were finally selected. Different
study variables were analysed: motor recovery, limb functionality, sensory impairment,
spasticity and the degree of independence of the patient in ADL's after treatment.
Conclusions: There is evidence that mirror therapy together with conventional rehabilitation is
effective for functional rehabilitation of the upper limb, being considered an effective and safe
technique.^^^^
